Collecting Clean Scans

I just had another good CT scan, so we’re celebrating that! I will let you know later what we did to celebrate. But first I need to finish posting about our Mexico trip! This is just a brief interruption in the Mexico series to give you the good news about my scan results.

The only small negative was my bloodwork again showed a low white blood cell count. That’s what landed me in the doctor’s office a year and a half ago. We were ruling out various possibilities and just about to start looking for autoimmune issues, which run in the family, when we unexpectedly found cancer. At that point, the concern about possible autoimmune issues took a back seat while we dealt with the more imminent threat of cancer.

So now we’re back to looking for reasons for my persistent low white blood cell count. My oncologist doesn’t think it’s due to cancer. We’re going to start with a hematologist appointment next week, and my guess is I may be referred to a rheumatologist after that.

I don’t think there’s too much to worry about at this point. I have a few symptoms that could indicate some sort of autoimmune issue, but they are mild. Cancer is still the main threat, but the more clean scans I get, the better my chances. And that is why we are celebrating!
