Wrapping presents at 4:30 AM

This is me, making coffee at 4:30 AM.

I don’t even know how that happened! I didn’t do it! It was just suddenly like that! (That’s me, sounding like a 3-year-old at 4:30 in the morning.)

I’m I really so insanely driven that I got up at 4:30 AM to wrap presents? No. No, no, no, no, nothing like that. What happened was my parents have been visiting and they bought plane tickets that necessitated leaving the house at 3:30 AM to catch their return flight.

So now you’re thinking, what a good, devoted daughter, getting up at 3:00 AM to take your parents to the airport. No, actually not. All I did was hire a black car service for them. Plus, they were staying in the rented casita, and I was staying 4 miles away in my new townhome. So the entire 3:30 AM thing was not going to impact me at all (la-la-la).

Typically I turn my phone off at night. But I left it on just in case. I knew my parents wouldn’t call me unless their ride simply didn’t show up. And I had double-confirmed with the company yesterday that they were definitely coming, so I was pretty sure I’d sleep through the whole thing.

Except, I’m the one who made the reservation. So at 3:29 AM, I get a helpful automated text from the black car company that my ride had arrived. DING! I’m a light sleeper, and I wake up off and on all night long. The key to going right back to sleep is to not engage my brain. I need my brainwaves to stay in sleep mode. I can get myself all the way to the bathroom and back and still be in some sort of REM or something. But I cannot stay in sleep-brainwave-mode and read a text message. Reading is an awake-brainwave-mode. (Don’t you love my highly technical explanation of all this, LOL). And if I go into awake-brainwave-mode past about 3:00 AM, I’m simply not going to go back to sleep.

Anyway, I hung out in bed for an hour until I finally decided I had better things to do with my time, and got up at 4:30. I wanted to go to Old Town to get some last minute Christmas shopping done, but I don’t think Old Town is open at 4:30 AM.
